The SVP Fellows program is a two-year, skills-based volunteer experience for community-minded professionals, leaders and social entrepreneurs who are Black, Indigenous and/or People of Color
SVP seeks individuals who meet the criteria outlined above, are connected to populations we serve and have a passion for strengthening the Twin Cities community through hands-on work with innovative nonprofits. An ideal SVP Fellow has skills needed for nonprofit impact building projects (i.e., program evaluation, fund and/or business development, nonprofit leadership, strategic planning, etc.) and is committed to co-creating opportunities for all to thrive. SVP Fellows are selected through a nomination or application process. Applications can be found here. Materials will still be accepted on a rolling basis until Fellowships are filled. Investee Engagement Opportunities Here are some opportunities to engage with a couple of SVP Investee organizations: Foster Advocates is hosting their monthly Village Gathering, focused on our Minnesota Promise campaign! They will share goals for and highlights of their campaign and ways community members across the state can support Foster Advocates’ work MN Urban Debate League is seeking experienced speech & debate competitors and coaches who want to make a difference for youth this summer! Apply to be a paid MDAW Staff member for one or multiple of our 15+ ANTI-RACISM RESOURCES The St. Paul & Minnesota Foundation is a leader in the philanthropic space who regularly leans into building racial equity into all aspects of its organization, as well as in its grantmaking processes. They also provide powerful resources for anti-racism education. It’s worth bookmarking their Racial Equity Resources page and checking it regularly.
One of the resources listed on their page is an excellent New York Times article about The 1619 Project and its subsequent podcast. This is an audio series on how slavery has transformed America, connecting past and present through the oldest form of storytelling. Hulu recently released a six-part limited docu-series, “The 1619 Project” which is an expansion of the articles created by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Nikole Hannah-Jones and the New York Community Opportunities YWCA’s Girls Inc. Eureka! Program: Applications are now open for the Eureka Programs. Girls Inc. Eureka! is a five-year summer and school-year program for girls interested in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields. In partnership with the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota, the Eureka! program builds sisterhood with girls from all over the Twin Cities — exploring Recruitment for the Rookie Cohort (Current 7th grade students) is open, as well as for the Vet Cohort (current 8th grade students).
